About Combined Defence Services Exam
The Combined Defence Services (CDS) is a national level examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India for recruitment of Officers for the three wings of Indian Armed Forces – Army, Nay and Air Force.
The CDS Exam is conducted twice in a year and is in two stages – a writtten exam and an interview. CDS Exam is highy competitve exam and candidates must prepare well to succeed. UPSC CDS Exam Eligibility 2024
Eligibility criteria laid down by Union Public Service Commission for CDS Exam includes age, education and physical criteria. All aspirants should ensure they fulfil the CDS Eligibility Criteria 2024 before submitting the application form.
Only an unmarried citizen of India or a subject of Nepal can apply for CDS Exam.
Age Limit for CDS Exam
According to UPSC, following is the age criteria for candidates appearing for CDS Exam in 2024:
- CDS 2 2024 age limit for Indian Military Academy (IMA) is that unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 2000, and not later than January 1, 2005, are eligible to apply
- CDS 2 2024 age limit for Indian Naval Academy (IMA) is that unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 2000, and not later than January 1, 2005, are eligible to apply
- Candidates applying for Air Force Academy should be between 20 to 24 years old as of January 1, 2024. They must have been born not earlier than January 2, 2000, and not later than January 1, 2004For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for men), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2005, are eligible to apply
- For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course), candidates should be unmarried and born not earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2005
Education Qualification for CDS Exam
The CDS 2024 educational qualification varies as per the posts and is as follows:
- For IMA and Officers’ Training Academy, the required educational qualification is Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university
- For Indian Naval Academy, candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognised university
- For Air Force Academy, candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognised university. They must have studied Physics and Mathematics in Class 12
CDS Exam Syllabus & Pattern
The Union Public Service Commission has released NDA Syllabus 2024 PDF through the official notification. The CDS Syllabus 2024 includes English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics for admission to the Indian Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy, and Air Force Academy. However, the syllabus for admission to the Officers’ Training Academy focuses solely on English and General Knowledge subjects.
CDS exam assesses candidates’ intelligence, aptitude, and personality traits. Candidates undergo a comprehensive selection process that includes a written examination, followed by an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
